Our previous works have proved that moxibustion at“ShenJue”plays a role in protecting gastricmucosa in the experimental gastric ulcer model rat.The present studies are designed to determinewhether the mechanisms of moxibustion protecting gastric mucosa are mediated by mucus.The re-suits are as follows:Either before or aiter the experimental gastric ulcer model had formed

moxibus-tion treatment would markedly increase the ratio of PAS positive staining layer to total length of gas-tric gland(p<0.05)

and the combined gastric mucus of stomach(P<0.05).These results are neg-tively correlated to gastri ulcer area and suggest that the mechanisms of moxibustion protection on gas-tric mucosa are mediated by mucus in the experimental gastric ulcer model rat.
