In order to analyse the mechanism of acupuncture effect on hearing

the effect of electroacupuncture on MLR(middle latency response)was observed in the present study by means of electrical physiological methods in anaesthetized guinea pigs. The recovery time of evoked response was used to indicate the excitability of the auditory cortex in the experiments. Electroacupuncture of different points had different effects on the excitability of the auditory cortex. Electroacupuncture of points on ear area and foreleg mainly induced excitation of the auditory cortex

while points on hind limb mainly inhibition.
