Effect of Intracerebroventricular Injection of Orphanin FQ on Inflammatory Pain Behavior and Electroacupuncture Analgesia
Orphanin FQ(OFQ) is a newly discovered endogenous opioid-like peptide
and its role in pain modulation and acupuncture analgesia remains to be elucidated. The present study was designed to observe the effect of intracerebroventricular injection of OFQ on pain behavior and electroacupuncture (EA)analgesia in rat formalin test. The results showed that small dose of OFQ(0.1μg and 0. 5μg)had no effect on formalin-induced inflammatory pain. while 1μg OFQ could potentiate it. When OFQ was injected after EA
OFQ at both doses(0. 1μg and 0. 5μg) could decrease the effect of EA. The results suggested that OFQ could antagonize the analgesic effect of EA in inflammatory state.
