    • Effect of acupuncture on the expression of neuropeptides and related inflammatory factors in rats with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome

    • A study on acupuncture treatment for diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) has made significant progress. The research team found through carefully designed experiments that acupuncture has a significant effect on the expression of brain gut peptides and related inflammatory factors in IBS-D rats. This discovery not only reveals the mechanism of acupuncture treatment for IBS-D, but also provides a theoretical basis for future clinical applications. In the study, researchers first successfully established an IBS-D rat model through acetic acid enema and restraint stress. Subsequently, they were given medication and acupuncture treatment respectively, and the physiological indicators and biochemical expression of each group of rats were observed in detail. The results showed that the acupuncture group rats showed significant improvements in general state, emotional state, inflammatory response, and related brain gut peptide expression. Compared with the model group, the body mass, walking distance, and upright frequency of the acupuncture group rats significantly increased, and the serum IL-10 content also significantly increased. At the same time, the number of fecal particles and colon tissue MC in the acupuncture group rats were significantly reduced, and the serum TNF - α content and CGRP mRNA expression levels in the hypothalamus and colon tissues were also significantly reduced. These results indicate that acupuncture can effectively improve symptoms and inflammatory responses in IBS-D rats, and regulate the expression of related brain gut peptides. This study not only confirms the positive role of acupuncture in the treatment of IBS-D, but also reveals its potential mechanism of action. In the future, with the deepening of research, the method of acupuncture treatment for IBS-D is expected to be more widely applied in clinical practice, bringing good news to a large number of patients.
