    • Research progress on the molecular mechanism of electroacupuncture at “Zusanli” (ST36) for regulating gastrointestinal dysfunction

    • Recent studies have shown that Zusanli is often used as an important acupoint prescription in clinical acupuncture and moxibustion to treat gastrointestinal dysfunction related diseases. This article systematically reviews the relevant basic research in Chinese and English databases over the past five years, and finds that electroacupuncture intervention at a single acupoint "Zusanli" has a significant effect on improving gastrointestinal mucosal damage and regulating gastrointestinal motility disorders. Research has shown that electroacupuncture at "Zusanli" may improve gastrointestinal mucosal damage by regulating macrophages, inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and immune microenvironment, and regulate gastrointestinal motility disorders through central and peripheral signal transduction, as well as the function of mast cells and Cajal stromal cells. This study provides a scientific basis for acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunction related diseases, and provides a new direction for future clinical application and research.
