Study on the mechanism of electroacupuncture regulating macrophage polarization to improve ulcerative colitis in rats
“An important progress has been made in the study of the mechanism of electroacupuncture "intestinal disease formula" in improving ulcerative colitis (UC) in rats. The research team established a UC model to observe the effect of electroacupuncture on colonic macrophage polarization in rats, revealing the potential of electroacupuncture in regulating colonic macrophage polarization and improving UC symptoms. The research results showed that after receiving electroacupuncture treatment, the degree of damage and inflammatory cell infiltration in the colon pathological tissue of rats in the electroacupuncture group were significantly improved. At the same time, electroacupuncture significantly increased the growth rate of body mass, colon length, spleen mass, and the levels of anti-inflammatory factors IL-2 and IL-10 in the serum of rats. The improvement of these indicators indicates that electroacupuncture has played a positive role in alleviating symptoms of UC and reducing inflammatory reactions. It is worth mentioning that the expression level of M2 macrophage marker Arg1 in the colon of rats in the electroacupuncture group was significantly increased, while the expression level of M1 macrophage marker iNOS was significantly decreased. This discovery reveals the mechanism of electroacupuncture regulating colonic macrophage polarization, which improves UC symptoms by inhibiting the generation of M1 macrophages and promoting the generation of M2 macrophages. The research results not only provide new ideas and methods for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, but also provide new basis and support for the application of Chinese medicine acupuncture and moxibustion technology in modern medicine.”
