    • Electroacupuncture alleviates neurological function via activating the Yap-OPA1 axis and mitochondrial fusion in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury

    • The latest research reveals the mechanism of electroacupuncture in alleviating cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) in rats. Researchers stimulated the "Baihui" and "Shenting" acupoints with electroacupuncture and found that this method can activate the Yes related protein (Yap) - optic nerve atrophy protein 1 (OPA1) signaling axis, thereby promoting mitochondrial fusion function. This discovery not only provides scientific basis for the application of electroacupuncture in the field of neuroprotection, but also provides new ideas for the treatment of neurological diseases such as CIRI. In the experiment, researchers prepared a focal CIRI model using the method of occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, and evaluated neurological deficits and stroke volume percentage using various technical methods. The results showed that the percentage of cerebral infarction volume and neurological function score in the electroacupuncture group rats were significantly reduced, and the expression levels of key proteins and mRNA such as Yap and OPA1 in the infarcted cerebral cortex were also significantly increased. These findings further confirm the effectiveness of electroacupuncture in alleviating CIRI injury by activating the Yap-OPA1 signaling axis. This study not only provides strong support for our in-depth understanding of the neuroprotective effects of electroacupuncture, but also provides important insights for the development of new treatments for neurological diseases. In the future, we are expected to see more innovative applications based on electroacupuncture treatment technology make breakthroughs in the field of neurological diseases.
