Special lssue on Acupuncture-moxibustion and Tumor

Tumor is a global public health problem, and its incidence rate and mortality are increasing year by year. The World Health Organization has identified tumors as a chronic disease, with cerebrovascular disease ranking among the top two leading causes of death worldwide. Although the 5-year survival rate of cancer patients in China has improved with the advancement of tumor diagnosis and treatment methods, there is still a certain gap compared to developed countries, and the current situation of tumor prevention and treatment is quite severe.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that the basic pathogenesis of tumor formation is the long-term deficiency of yang qi in the body, which leads to the presence of evil qi, causing the body to be in a state of imbalance between yin and yang, disharmony between qi and blood, imbalance of organs, low or disordered immune function, that is, the whole body is deficient, and the local part is true. Acupuncture and moxibustion treats tumors by regulating qi and blood, dredging channels and activating collaterals, and promoting the smooth flow of qi and blood. Acupuncture and moxibustion, as a body surface intervention method based on the theory of meridians and acupoints, can play a comprehensive role of full cycle and multi targets in the prevention and treatment of tumors. With the promotion and popularization of integrated oncology, the role of acupuncture and moxibustion in the comprehensive treatment of tumors has gradually received attention. Many studies have shown that acupuncture and moxibustion can effectively inhibit tumor growth, improve tumor related symptoms and complications. In addition, the intervention effect of acupuncture and moxibustion on tumors is often closely related to the analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti stress and other effects of acupuncture and moxibustion. Through the above ways, it can play the role of dredging the meridians, regulating the viscera, and strengthening the body.

In order to report the latest progress in acupuncture and moxibustion and tumor research and promote academic exchanges between peers at home and abroad, Acupuncture Research has organized a column entitled "acupuncture and moxibustion and tumor". This column has received positive responses and strong support from peers from 41 universities, research institutes, and hospitals in China through special contributions and free solicitation. A total of 79 articles have been received, and after careful review by the editorial department, a total of 8 articles have been included in this issue. In this column, researchers have explained and demonstrated the results of acupuncture and moxibustion from different perspectives to inhibit tumor growth, improve tumor related symptoms and complications, covering clinical practice application, basic mechanism research, computer data mining, evidence-based medicine system evaluation, clinical treatment demand questionnaire survey and other directions and fields. In addition, this column also made a detailed review of the application of acupuncture and moxibustion in the clinical treatment of tumor related syndromes, summarizing and thinking about the current situation and future of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of tumors.

Although the eight papers included in this column are just the tip of the iceberg of scientific research in this field, we hope to present the latest progress and in-depth discussion on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of tumors to readers through Acupuncture Research, promote the development and application of acupuncture and moxibustion in the field of tumor treatment, and provide more options for patients' rehabilitation. With the continuous progress of big data and modern biotechnology, the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion in tumor prevention and treatment is expected to make new progress. This is not only a challenge but also an opportunity for acupuncture and moxibustion research. I hope that with the hard work of many scholars, through continuous accumulation, acupuncture and moxibustion research in tumor clinical and basic aspects can have further breakthroughs.
