摘要:Investigation on the mechanism underlying the formation of the propagated sensation along channels(PSC)is one of the important problems in the rese- arch of channels and collaterals. In this respect, there are two suppositions at present, namely,“spreading of excitation in CNS(centnal nervous system)” and “activation in sequence in periphery.”Both the two were evidenced by some experiment results.Faced with such a case, how can we interpret its mechanism more satisfactorily?Based on the data accumulated in PSC research and the fundamental facts in biology, particularly, tthe fact that the activi- ties of the peripheral structures and its afferent inputs play a decisive role in keeping the normal function and organization of CNS,which have been repea- tedly confirmed for many years,we advance the present hypothesis.Accordi- ng to this hypothesis,“peripheral”and“Central mechanism”are operated as a whole. There is a substantial process proceeding along the channels in peri- phery and also a corresponding functional organization in CNS.Although the central mechanism may be brought into play in some cases, the peripheral substantial process is the determinant in the integration of the“periphery”and CNS. From the neurophysiological point of view, tha activities of the periphe- ral structure must leave some trace, slight or profound in CNS.As a steady biological phenomenon,PSC must be formed in the course of phylogeny, thus. it is very possible to leave a steady trace or functional connections(or “organizat ion of channels”)in CNS,acting as the central mechanism in the formation of PSC.However, these particular functional connections can never be formed without foundation,it must be subordinate to the principle of evolu- tion.First of all,it depends on the peripherals tructre and its activities. In other words, the functional organization in CNS is just the reflection of the priepheral structure and its activities, but not in reverse. Therefore,if there are some particular functional connections(or“organization of channels”)in CNS, then there must be certain substantial process proceeding along the channel as well. The“central organization of channels”is merely a reflection or projec- ction of the“aperipheral substantial process”.It is absolutely impossible to make appearance in CNS without the peripheral substantial process along the hannel. In other words,in the integration of“periphery”and CNS,the det- erminant is the peripheral substantial process along the channel. This hypo- thesisis not only based on sufficient theoritical consideration but also supported by not a few experimental results. We believe that it would be evidenced by more of the facts and give a clear interpretation of the mechanism of the formation of PSC.

摘要:It is a problem to be solved whether the blocking of propagated sensanti- in along channels(BPSC)induced by local cooling is resulted from the sens- ory dysfunction of somatosensory system or other causes. In order to clarify the problem,an observation on the variation of the cortical sensory evoked potential(SEP)and evoked action potential(AP)of sensory nerve concern- ed with the acupoint stimulated during BPSC has been carried out in this wo- rk. Eighteen subjects with marked propagated sensation along channels(PSC) and 11 without PSC were studied. The acupoint punctured was Hegu and Sh- ousanli was cooled with a small ice bag.The action potential was receded from the radial nerve of upper arm ipsilateral to the stimulated side and SEP from the area of arm representation contralateral to the stimulatied side. The observation of the influence of local cooling on these two potentials was carried out on different day. The resuls are as follows: In all cases BPSC developed gradually, and so did the recovery of PSC after removal of ice bag.The results of measuement of the temperature of deep tisse underneath the acupoint“Shousanli”in 9 subjects showed that the critical temperature for BPSC and recovery of PSC was 21.16±0.4℃.The peak latency and the duration of AP during local cooling lasted 3.4% and 7.5% longer than those before cooling respectively. There was no striking change in the amplitudes of AP.The rates of variation of the peak latency, duration and amplitude of SFP potential complex P_(60)-N_(75)-P_(95)during cooling were 0.7%,1.6% and 3.9% resectively. The results indicate that local cooling could completely block FSC,but only slightly effect the AP of sensory nerve and SEP of SI of cerebral cor- tex.It is thus evident that BPSC induced by local cooling was irrelevant to the dysfunction of the sensory nerve,as the afferent signals from Hegu could still be able to normally transmit to central nervous system. It didn’t resulted from the interference of the two afferent signals in the first soma- tosensory area of cerebral cortex either,as the response of SI to acupuncture remained unchanged. It follows that BPSC might result from the blo- eking of a certain substantial process advancing along the channel in periphery. This process is not only susceptible to the influence of mechanical pressure, but also highly temperature-dependant in nature. This is an important clue for the further elucidation of the mechanism of BPSC and the essence of this particular substantial process proceeding along the channels.

摘要:Travelling at a low speed is one of the important characteristics of PSC. However, the papers reported so far were almost the results of observations on individuals or a small number of subjects, and there still lacks of the re- sults of observations on the large sample. In order to remedy the shortcomi- ng in this respect,1100 times of observation have been made on 80 subjects with marked PSC in our laboratory.PSC was evoked by electrically stimu- lating the acupoints below the knee or elbow joint and the velocity of PSC was measured with a stop watch or with the add of a physiograph. The result demonstrate that the velocity of PSC was within the range of 10 cm/sec in most of the cases under observation and was basically steady in the same individual. It is particularly to be noted that PSC,evoked by sti- mulating the acupoints below the knee joint, travelled rather slow through the trunk than through the lower limb.In contrast, the paraesthesia was always skimmed over the trunk in sensory Jacksonian march. The comparison is obvious. It is well known that the representative area of trunk in SI and posterolateral ventral nucleus of thalamus are by far smaller than that of the upper and lower limb. However, the velocity of PSC travelling through the trunk was rather slow than that throagh the lower limb. This is hard to explain from the angle of“the spreading of excitation in CNS”.The fact that the velocity of PSC was markedly influenced by the variation of the skin temperature also suggest that there may be a certain substantial process proceeding along the channel during the advance of PSC.The above results further support the view point of“the integration of periphery and CNS under the guide of the substantial process proceeding along the channels in respect to the mechanism underlying the formation of PSC.
