APUD 概念是由英国学者皮尔斯(A.G.E.Pearse)于1968年提出的

这一概念是指机体内有一群分布广泛的细胞

它具有摄取胺的前质并通过脱羧作用

生成多种具有生物活性的物质

故称 APUD(全称为 Amine Precursor Uptake and Decarboxylation)。这一概念的形成具有一段较长的过程

在此不多赘述。1968年

皮尔斯对 APUD 细胞所在的器官、来源及其分泌物(表1)的分析中可以看出

这些细胞有的分布于内分泌腺

有的则分布于非内分泌的器官或组织。到1969年

APUD 细胞由原来的8种发展为14种细胞。近年来由于实验胚胎学的发展
