In the present study

90 cases of diabetes melitus-induced peripheral neuropathy were divided into acupuncture(Yishu

Shenshu

Mingmen

etc. ) + medicine group (n = 45 ) and medicine control group (n = 45). Aner one course of treatment

in the acupuncture + medicine group

31 cases (68. 89% ) had marked improvement

13 cases (28. 89 % ) were effective

1 case (2. 22 % ) was ineffective

with the total effective rate being 97. 78 %; in the control group

15 cases (33. 33 % ) were effective and 10 cases (22. 23 % ) were ineffective

with the total effective rate being 77. 77 %. Statistical analysis suggests that the therapeutic effect of acupuncture + medicine group is significantly superior to that of medicine control group (P < 0. 01 ).
