Effects of Acupuncture Treatment on Blood LPO and SOD Contents in Parkinsonism Patients[J]. Acupuncture research, 2001, (1): 28-31.DOI:
Abstract
Objective: To observe effects of acupuncture treatment on blood LPO and SOD contents in Parkinsonism patients. Methods: 87 Parkinsonism patients were randomly divided into acupuncture group (n= 59) and medication group (n= 28). Acupoints as Xiaochan point (1.5 cun inferior to Shaohai HT 3)
Waiguan (TE 5)
Hegu (LI 4)
Yanglingquan (GB 34)
Taichong (LR 3)
Zusanli (ST 36)
etc were used and stimulated with uniform reinforcing reducing needling method. The treatment was given once daily
with 10 sessions being a therapeutic course
continuously for 3 courses. Patients in medication group were treated with madopar
sinemet
artane
etc based on the doctor's requirements. Plasma LPO content and SOD content of red blood cells were detected by using thiobarbituric acid via lipid peroxide malonyldialdehyde technique and radioimmunoassay respectively. Results: Results showed that after acupuncture treatment
SOD content increased significantly
particularly in patients above 60 years at age
female patients and the patients with disease duration being less than 3 years in comparison with those under 60 years
male patients and those with disease duration being over 3 years respectively. Conclusion: Acupuncture can function well in preventing Parkinsonism from exacerbation particularly in patients above 60 years old
female patients and those with shorter duration of disease.
