Objective: To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with analgesics on neoglottis reconstruction operation in 30 cases of pharyngeal tumor patients. Methods: Bilateral Hegu(LI 4) and Futu(ST 32) were punctured and stimulated electrically for 20 min. Adjuvant medicines pethidine (1 mg/kg)

rotundin (60 mg) and metoclopramide (10 mg) were used for intramuscular injection 15～25 min before operation

combined with local application (pharyngeal mucosa)of 1% dicaine (12 mL) and neck subcutaneous injection of 0.5% procaine (10 mL). Results: Among the 30 cases

the analgesic effects were class I in 20 cases (the patient had no apparent pain reaction during operation

the operation was conducted smoothly and doses of the above mentioned medicines were within the fixed limit); class Ⅱ in 9 cases (the patient experienced slight pain

pethidine was increased in dose (1.5 mg/kg) and the operation could be accomplished smoothly); and class Ⅳ in one case (the patient experienced unbearable pain during operation and the operation could not carried out). The successful rate was 96.7%.Conclusion: Under acupuncture anesthesia combined with analgesics

the neoglottis reconstruction operation achieved a satisfactory result.
