cases of allergic bronchial asthma were treated by acupuncture of Dazhui (GV 14)
Feishu (BL 13)
Dingchuan (EX B 1)
Pishu (BL 20)
Shenshu (BL 23)
Fengchi (GB 20)
etc. Among them
7 cases were mild type and 18 moderate type. Supernate IL 4 activity in cultured PBMC (peripheral B mononuclear cell) derived from asthma patients was determined by using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and serum total IgE content determined by using double antibody sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. After one course of treatment
results revealed that patients' symptoms were improved remarkably
with the total effective rate being 96%. Before treatment
supernate IL 4 activity in cultured PBMC and the total content of IgE in serum were significantly higher than those of healthy subjects(25 cases
P<0.01)). After treatment
the above mentioned index values lowered obviously in comparison with pre treatment (P<0.05). The fact suggests that acupuncture can inhibit IL 4 activity and lower serum total IgE content in allergic bronchial asthma patients.
