(Invited Chief Editor for this column: Professor Xu Bin from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine)

Editorial Preface: Making acupoints objects that are perceptible, distinguishable, usable, and understandable is the common pursuit of ancient and modern medical practitioners. "Study on the Primordial State of Acupoints" is the contemporary expression of this academic tradition. Since the call for papers in June 2017, this column has received active responses from scholars both domestically and abroad. After approval by the editorial committee of Acupuncture Research, 9 papers have been received and published in this column. The articles are divided into two categories: observational studies and theoretical explorations. Observational studies include detailed descriptions of the relationship between referred pain of angina and acupoint sensitization(Zhu Bing et al.), choosing positive reaction points during dysmenorrhea can improve the curative effect(Zhao Jiping et al.), the distribution characteristics of heat-sensitive points along the Yangming meridian in patients with allergic rhinitis(Zheng Meifeng et al.), and the local immune-inflammatory reactions initiated by moxibustion may not rely on the TRPV1 channel(Yu Shuguang et al.), and the initiation, transmission, and amplification of needle stimulation signals at the Neiguan acupoint may be associated with the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway(Dong Guirong et al.). The other category comprises theoretical discussions, such as elucidating the classical morphological view of acupoints, "superficial fascia" is neither a tendon nor a membrane, clarifying the microstructure of acupoints is helpful to elucidate the "primordial state of acupoints", and emphasizing the fundamental principles of acupuncture medicine in contemporary research and conceptual frameworks. We believe that these studies will enhance people's understanding of the primordial state of acupoints.
